H.E. Lin Chia-Lung, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Belize on October 29, 2024, where he met with Hon. Francis Fonseca, Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education. Their meeting marked the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Belize, celebrated by a motion passed in Belize’s National Assembly.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their nations’ partnership, focusing on poverty reduction, economic growth, and social well-being. Minister Fonseca expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s support in building a hospital in San Pedro and for pledging funds to rebuild the Belcan Bridge. They emphasized their shared goal of advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and committed to advocating for Taiwan’s role within the UN.
Minister Lin thanked Belize for its support of Taiwan’s sovereignty, while both ministers pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of their citizens.
